Sector Based Scheme quotas for Bulgaria and Romania

Bulgaria and Romania, who joined the European Union on 01 January 2007, have been specifically targeted for new quotas for the Sector Based Scheme (SBS). The SBS is intended to help employers in the United Kingdom find low-skilled labor to help find workers for positions considered difficult to fill.

While the SBS was planned to be phased out by 31 December 2006, it was decided that the program would be kept in place for Bulgaria and Romania upon their accession to the European Union.

3500 permits have been agreed upon, to be subdivided into three sectors as follows:

• Fish Processing - 600

• Meat Processing – 2100

• Mushroom Processing - 800

The new quotas went into effect on 01 January 2007.
