Taiwanese youth can now apply for the UK's Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme Visa

Beginning 1 January 2012, Taiwanese youth can apply for the UK's Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa. The UK visa enables young people from participating countries to come and experience life in the UK under the Tier 5 visa of the points-based system.

Taiwan will join the list of countries and territories that participate in the UK's youth mobility scheme. The other Countries on the scheme are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Monaco. Every year, the UK government allocates a number of visas to be distributed under the Tier 5 youth mobility scheme for each country and territory.

In 2012, Taiwan, Japan and Monaco will each receive an allocation of 1,000 places. The number of Tier 5 Youth Mobility visas available to overseas nationals is based on the number of places offered to UK nationals on the relevant reciprocal scheme in the overseas national's home Country.

Australia, Canada and New Zealand's allocations will match the number of UK nationals who were issued visas on their reciprocal schemes in the previous year:

• Australia - 32,500 places
• Canada - 5,000 places
• New Zealand - 10,000 places

To apply for a certificate of sponsorship, you will need to meet the eligibility criteria and have registered through Taiwan's National Youth Commission website between 1 December and 20 December 2011. The Taiwanese government will grant certificates of sponsorship to young people between 18 and 30 years old who meet the UK immigration criteria. Upon receiving a certificate of sponsorship, applicants must then apply to the UK visa application centre in Taiwan for a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa.
