Working and Studying
Before you are granted permission to study in Quebec you will have to prove that you have sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs without the need to work.
However, once your are in Quebec it is possible to obtain a work permit as a student. There are, however, certain conditions attached.
Working on campus and work placements
As a foreign student it is fine for you to work within the university campus as long as you are a full-time student and in posession of a study permit. Nevertheless, opportunities for on-campus work, such as research and teaching assistant posts, are usually limited.
You are permitted to work off campus if the work consists in a work placement, paid or otherwise, which constitutes an integral part of your studies in Quebec. You will generally require a work permit from the Canadian authorities to do so.
Off-campus work
If your chosen higher education establishment is participating in the Off-Campus Work Program for international students, you may well be eligible for a work permit allowing you to hold any off-campus employment for up to a maximum of 20 hours each week during term time, and full time during vacations.
