Virgil Abloh, over the past few weeks, has been customizing his OFF-WHITE x Air Jordan 1 collaboration for all his famous friends. A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, Ibn Jasper, and Luka Sabbat to name a few. But for the latest round of seeding, Virgil is paying tribute to the man himself — Michael Jordan.
Abloh, a Chicago kid who Young up watching Jordan, is gearing up to release a collaboration most can only dream of. Thus he honors MJ in a multitude of ways, firstly by writing “thanks for a lifetime of inspiration” on the shoe’s iconic black and red box. Virgil then pens “23” and “45” at each heel while writing “JORDAN” next to the “AIR” script that comes standard on the deconstructed shoe. “VIRGIL WAS HERE” appears on the medial siding of the midsole.
