Moscow has blasted the United States after Washington added Russian nationals seeking a US visa to a list of ‘homeless nationals’ who can apply for immigrant visas in third countries. The move by the US allows Russians to apply for a US visa in Warsaw, Poland instead of their home country.

 

The decision to add Russian citizens to a list of homeless nationals who can apply for a visa in third countries comes after the US Embassy in Moscow ceased processing visa applications back in May after Russia banned the hiring of embassy staff.

The UK immigration status of people suffering domestic abuse is being used as a means of control and coercion, a new report has found. Domestic Abuse Commissioner, Nicole Jacobs, said that the term “immigration abuse” should be recognised in national guidance. 

 

Facebook has settled with the US Department of Justice (DoJ), which filed a lawsuit over the social media giant’s recruitment of foreign workers on temporary US visas ahead of hiring American staff. 

 

The social media platform, founded by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, also settled separately with the US Department of Labor (DoL) over potential recruitment violations.

In a race to get migrants into the UK before Priti Patel’s new UK immigration bill receives royal assent, people smugglers are ramping up Channel crossings. According to the latest figures, more than 800 migrants have made the perilous 21-mile since Sunday 17 October.  

 

A report published by the BBC claims that immigration authorities in France have prevented a further 482 migrants from crossing the Channel over the past few days, with a reported 17 vessels intercepting them.

The Biden administration is set to create an intelligence cell run by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as part of plans to expand biometric data collection from migrants. The new US immigration intelligence-gathering cell will also monitor misleading information posted on social media that could trigger mass migrant movements.

 

The new cell is expected to be operational by the end of October and will provide indications and warnings of possible mass migrant surges by gathering intelligence from DHS officials based in Central and South America. 

According to a new report, the UK intra-company transfer (ICT) visa scheme is being abused by multinational firms. The ICT visa route grants entry to skilled foreign workers transferring to a UK branch of international companies, but the new report has alleged that firms are abusing the system by sending lower-skilled workers to occupy certain job roles.
