Record numbers enter UK from the Philippines

Record numbers of Filipinos entered the UK in the year to March 2014, according to a statement released by the British Embassy.

In the 12 months prior to March 2014 there were 49,000 visas issued to Filipinos, which was a 27% increase on the previous year.

The statement also said that over 90% of all visa applications from Filipinos are approved.

Canada announces new visa application program

The Canadian government has launched a new initiative to speed up the visa application process for citizens from India and Brazil.

As part of this pilot program, applicants will no longer have to visit immigration centres but can apply online, reducing the turnaround time to complete the process.

UK migration on the increase

Net migration in the UK has increased by 38% in the year 2013-2014 according to government statistics.

EU citizens made up around two-thirds of the growth, but for the first time in three years there was also an increase in immigrants coming from outside the EU.

The EB-5 US Investor visa has run out of visas after a huge surge in demand from Chinese applicants.

This is the first time in 24 years that the annual limit of 10,000 visas has been reached. However a new visa allocation will be available from 1st of October.
