As of Nov.1, 2004, people applying for a visa under the Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP), will have to fill out a new application form. Applications made using the old form will not be accepted after December 1.
Therewill not be any changes to the basic requirements or any criteria foreligibility under the HSMP, but an acknowledgment slip will be added tothe new form.
The slip will be given to the applicant or his/herrepresentative and will have the applicant's HSMP reference number onit. The slip will also show the current processing time and there willbe a checklist so the applicant can make sure all information submittedis correct.
The HSMP is available for people who haveexceptional skills within a certain field and wish to live and work inthe UK. A successful applicant will be granted 12 months right to liveand work in the UK. It is possible to have the initial 12 monthsextended up to three years.
After completing four years work in the UK, a person may apply for an Indefinite Leave to Remain.
