Many in the US media, including some at Netflix, seem to have taken a great dislike to Donald Trump.  There is perhaps some truth in the allegation that the US media has a liberal bias.  Perhaps not surprisingly, people from minority groups in the media tend to be overwhelmingly anti-Trump.   It could also be argued that Trump is such a polarising figure anyway that if you were pro Trump you would upset large number of people.  Probably safer if you are in the media to be anti-Trump!

Trump has also had various arguments with Comedians.  He has become very upset with Alec Baldwin who impersonates Trump on Saturday Night Live and Stephen Colbert of the Late Show.   Perhaps a mistake to get into arguments with comedians.

Probably in reality, short of censorship, there is nothing much Trump can do about the “liberal bias” in the media.  One thing also that is surely embarrassing to Trump must be support from neo-nazis including Andrew Anglin of the Daily Stormer and former top Klansman David Duke.

US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have been branded cruel and callous by a Netflix ‘docuseries’. The popular online streaming service released its first trailer for Immigration Nation, which will debut on August 3. The series has been criticized by some for depicting ICE in a bad light and apparently failing to show the job of ICE agents as it truly is.

Netflix is considered by some to have a “left-wing” bias and is backing the Immigration Nation series, which features several scenes showing children crying as they’re torn from their parents.

However, the series has been slammed for failing to show MS-13 gang members, drug dealers and the countless violent illegal immigrants that are arrested each year for brutal crimes such as rape and murder.

ICE portrayed as Cruel and uncaring

The recently released trailer contains footage of ICE agents acting cruelly, with one scene showing officers refusing to show a warrant when visiting a property. Some footage shows ICE agents receiving orders to pick up ‘at least two’ people.

An agent is then filmed turning to the camera and saying: “As harsh as it may sound, the government didn’t hire me for my moral views.”

The trailer ends with a rousing soundtrack and immigrant advocates taking to the streets chanting “Abolish ICE.”

Immigration Nation six-episode series

Directed by Israeli filmmakers Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau, Immigration Nation is a six-episode series that features ‘moving accounts of immigrants’ and gives viewers a ‘detailed insight into US immigration in the modern era,’ according to an official series synopsis.

Netflix has developed a close relationship with former US President, Barack Obama and former First Lady, Michelle Obama following a production deal under which the pair have created award-winning documentaries, including the Oscar-winning, American Factory and Becoming.

Susan Rice, the Obamas’ national security advisor sits on the board of directors at Netflix. Meanwhile, the online streaming platform’s co-CEOs, Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, are both major Democratic voters who backed the presidential campaigns of Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Immigration Nation synopsis in full

Taken directly from the Netflix official website, the full synopsis for Immigration Nation reads as follows:

The series will examine the processes, pitfalls, and pain of immigration in America. Shot over the course of three years, Schwarz and Clusiau capture the daily workings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, activists, lawmakers, attorneys, and a wide swath of undocumented immigrants, from desperate recent arrivals to long-time residents to deported US military combat veterans.

With an unrelenting flow of migrant workers continuing across the U.S. border, the pressure on ICE to enforce the administration’s zero-tolerance policies puts immigrants in the crosshairs.

But how do we fix a system that seems beyond repair? How do we apply common sense to something that’s evolved from one of humanitarian concern to an us-versus-them political flashpoint?

Has the story of America — the one that inspired our own immigrant relatives to risk death for a better life — been rewritten so broadly that the “land of the free” is a luxury afforded now only to a few?
