Canada's province of Saskatchewan is looking to fill nearly 300 skilled worker positions with Irish workers. Local businesses have been pushing the Canadian Government for more overseas workers to deal with skills shortages.

Next month the government of Saskatchewan and employers throughout the province will begin the labour recruitment process in Ireland. Premier Brad Wall and Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris will attend the trip to Dublin and Cork.

"I just spoke to a businessman here in Saskatchewan who figures that he missed $21 million worth of opportunities alone," said Norris who hopes to be able to fill open Saskatchewan as soon as possible.

Saskatchewan employers will recruit workers interested in immigrating to Canada at career fairs in Dublin and Cork. Over 9,000 qualified candidates are expected to attend the career fairs.

Canadian immigration officers will attend the fairs to meet with prospective workers in the construction, engineering and health sciences sectors to discuss their immigration options.

"The new Saskatchewan offers jobs, a high quality of life and a welcoming environment to newcomers," said Premier Wall.
