UK Tier 2 visa Brexit salary exemptions for jobs extended
Sanwar Ali workpermit.com comment:
The Brexit crisis continues. There are only about ten days to go and there is no agreement. If Brexit does ever happen, it is important that the new system deals with inevitable skills shortages due to the end of free movement for EU citizens. Lowering salary thresholds should help employers. However, the Tier 2 visa and Tier 2 Sponsor Licence system is overly complicated and expensive. Will this eventually change we wonder?
The number of professions made exempt from the £30,000 Tier 2 visa salary threshold has been increased, the government has announced. A memo issued on 7 March, 2019 by the Home Office’s communications department, confirmed that the NHS and schools will be made exempt from the controversial salary threshold.
More than 37,000 US visa rejections due to Trump travel ban
More than 37,000 US visa applications were rejected in 2018 because of Trump’s controversial travel ban. According to new, US State Department data, there was at least 1,000 more US visa rejections last year compared with 2017.
State Department figures show that 15,384 applications for US permanent residency were denied, while 21,645 applicants for non-immigrant visas, such as the E2 visa or L1 visa, had their applications rejected also.
Trump’s travel ban came into full effect in December 2017, when a third version was approved. Two previous variations had been declared unconstitutional by federal courts.
Tier 1 investor visa changes & Tier 1 Entrepreneur end 29 03
These are the biggest changes in the immigration rules in the UK for many years. The Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa scheme will end on 29 March 2019, to be replaced by the Innovator scheme. The investment requirement for the Innovator scheme is much lower at £50,000. However, there could be greater uncertainties when applying. You need to show innovation in your new business in the UK. However, what exactly does this mean?
New, Tier 1 investor visa rules will come into effect on 29 March, 2019 – Brexit deadline day - as part of several reforms to the Tier 1 points based system. A 294-page long statement of changes to UK immigration rules was published on 7 March, 2019 outlining new rules for the Tier 1 entrepreneur and investor visa programmes, plus the EU settlement scheme.
UK Visa right to rent checks breach human rights High Court
The High Court has ruled that a scheme preventing illegal immigrants from renting properties in the UK, breaches human rights laws. Right to rent checks, which were introduced in England in 2016, require landlords to check the UK visa and immigration status of tenants.
However, judges have ruled that it would be illegal to roll out the scheme in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland without further evaluation.
The Home Office has expressed its disappointment at the High Court ruling.
Adjudicating on proceedings, Mr Justice Spencer argued that the right to rent scheme had “very little or no effect” on its chief aim of controlling UK immigration. Spencer added that even if it did aid immigration control, the scheme is discriminatory and therefore, unviable.
