President Obama has said that there is 'a window' of opportunity when the US can achieve comprehensive immigration reform. At his first press conference after the election he said 'My expectation is that we get a bill introduced and we begin the process in Congress very soon after my inauguration.' He said that his administration was considering the best way of going about it and said that he was 'very confident' that he would succeed. The President's inauguration will take place on 21st January 2013.

Less than a week after the Republicans lost the US presidential election, there are signs that the US's stalemate on illegal immigration may be resolved. The Schumer Graham bill would, in effect, grant an amnesty for most illegal aliens already in the US while strengthening the border to prevent any further illegal immigration.

Mr Horowitz released details of his highly critical report on Thursday 1st November 2012. He said that he found it difficult even to say quite why the system was performing so badly because the courts' record-keeping was so poor.

Latino pressure groups are demanding that the President keeps his promise to reform US immigration law in the first year of his second term.
