On 19 August 2009 UKBA announced a concession for students who were awarded an international Baccalaureate qualification on 5 July 2009 who are unable to provide transcripts with their results in time to apply for UK University Courses starting in September.

According to Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), while there has been a significant drop in temporary skilled overseas immigration due to the global economic slowdown, nurses are still in demand.

The H-1B visa is a United States program designed to allow employers to hire skilled workers from abroad on a temporary basis. Typically, the work should require at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.

H-1B occupations include computer programmers, architects, engineers, doctors, and other professional work. In addition, certain fashion models of "distinguished merit" are also eligible.

A new report says that an increasing number of migrants are leaving the United Kingdom after staying for only a short period of time. The report also found that those who are most likely to leave are the ones Britain needs the most: highly skilled immigrants.

A report published by New Zealand think tank Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) states that the country needs to attract more migrant caregivers to look after its increasingly aging population.

Immigration programs to attract migrant caregivers need to be considered, the authors of the report stated -- in particular, permanent migration pathways.

In late spring of this year, the European Parliament adopted a measure to help deal with the problem of an aging population and declining hghly skilled workforce; the so-called Blue Card. Following the example of Countries in other parts of the World, Europe wants skilled immigrants to help alleviate shortages in its labor market.
