Immigration news

There will be new tougher requirements to come under the Canada temporary worker scheme from 1 April 2011. Canadian work visas are used by employers who are unable to find suitably qualified employees locally and so need to employ overseas nationals on a temporary basis. Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney had the following to say:

Immigration Minister Damian Green recently started a three day visit to India to meet with Indian Government officials on UK immigration policy and on how to deal with illegal immigration. Mr Green's will meet the Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Shri Vayalar Ravi, and Commerce Minister Shri Anand Sharma,and others.

Immigration Minister Green had the following to say:

Immigration is a major issue as Australia goes to the polls. It is still not certain which party will win. The two leaders of the main Political Parties are Julia Gillard the first female Prime Minister and leader of the Labor Party and Tony Abbott of the Liberal Party. If Tony Abbott wins then Julia Gillard would only have in office as Prime Minister for a few months.

The UK Coalition Government is currently consulting with the public about the new immigration cap. This will largely affect Tier 2 and Tier 1 visa applications. The consultation will look at how the immigration cap should work in practice.

UK immigration has announced another review of the UK Tier 4 student visa scheme. There has been a on third increase in student numbers in the twelve months to March 2010:
