Recommendations made by the Chief Inspector of Borders and UK immigration, David Neal, in a report analysing the Home Office’s front end services (FES), have been accepted by the government department. The Chief Inspector’s report revealed a number of issues with Home Office FES and how systems were functioning.

UK Home Secretary, Priti Patel, is being urged to introduce a UK humanitarian visa following the death of 27 people attempting to cross the Channel. Recorded as the single-most number of people to lose their lives in the Channel since migrant crossings began, men, children and women – some of whom were pregnant – perished in a desperate bid to reach Britain.

 

UK immigration numbers from EU drop significantly

The number of EU migrants arriving in the UK has dropped significantly since new restrictions were introduced, according to official figures. However, officials have warned that fewer EU migrants coming to the UK means that British businesses could face further recruitment problems without more temporary UK immigration routes.

 

UK visa scheme targeting prize-winning scientists flops

According to a report published by the New Scientist, not a single scientist has applied for a UK Global Talent Visa. The route, which was opened to Nobel Prize-winning scientists six months ago, has been described as a ‘joke’ by the scientific community.

 

The Global Talent Visa route was opened to award-winners in the fields of science, engineering, the humanities and medicine back in May, offering a fast-track route into Britain for overseas nationals wanting to work in the UK.

UK immigration crisis in Channel blamed on EU

UK Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has ripped into the European Union for ‘plunging Britain into a mass migrant crisis’ due to its open border policies. Patel claimed that France is ‘overwhelmed’ by the number of people heading to its shorelines to attempt the perilous journey across the Channel to reach England.

 

Speaking to reporters, Ms Patel admitted for the first time that Britain is in the grip of a ‘mass migration crisis’. She said: “The real problem on illegal migration flows is the EU has no border protections whatsoever.”

BNO visa exclusion for youngsters unfair say senior Tories

Senior Tory MPs are urging the Home Office to stop unfairly excluding young Hong Kong nationals from its flagship BNO visa scheme, according to a report published by The Independent. Former UK immigration minister, Damian Green, said: “The UK has a ‘moral obligation’ to Hong Kong citizens born after 1997, who cannot benefit from the BNO visa.”
