The outgoing boss of the UK immigration department’s Border Force, Paul Lincoln, has sparked a political row after saying that Britain’s borders are a pain in the a***. Mr Lincoln’s comments came amid a record 23,500 migrants crossing the Channel in 2021. The former Border Force boss left his post in October following a shakeup by Home Secretary, Priti Patel.

MPs have warned that Priti Patel’s controversial UK immigration bill could fail stateless children by creating more barriers for UK-born youngsters to obtain British citizenship. According to a report released by the Joint Committee on Human Rights, the much maligned Nationality and Borders Bill ‘fails to protect the rights of stateless children adequately’.

 

Dedicated UK visa for au pairs dismissed

Calls for a dedicated UK visa for au pairs following Brexit have been dismissed in Parliament by Home Office minister, Baroness Williams of Trafford. In a statement to MPs, she said: ‘such action to deal with a servant problem would lead to ridicule’. However, some Brexit critics have said that it has taken a shortage of au pairs to realise that leaving the EU was a disaster.

UK Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has blasted Labour and accused them of ‘siding with people traffickers’ after they blocked new UK immigration laws. Patel warned that Labour’s actions could lead to hundreds more people suffering, or drowning, in small boats in the Channel. Patel’s scathing attack comes following the recent death of several migrants in the Channel.

 

Home Office loses UK visa case over human rights violations

The Home Office has lost a UK visa case after it was found that the government agency had violated the human rights of the daughter of an elderly widowed mother. A tribunal in Birmingham found that the Home Office had infringed the human rights of an Indian-born British citizen whose mother suffers from dementia.
