Armed US immigration enforcement officers to patrol British airports

Submitted by george on

Plans to station armed US immigration enforcement officers at UK airports could result in higher air fares and additional security checks for British holidaymakers heading to America, as well as those travelling to the US on visas such as the E2 Treaty Investor, L1 visa, or Green Cards. Transatlantic passengers face immigration pre-clearance checks before boarding a flight, with the new procedures currently being discussed by Washington and Whitehall officials.

The move could see airlines forced to pay for US security staff, plus their families, to live in the UK. It’s likely that the additional cost of hosting US immigration officers will be passed on to passengers travelling to the States from the UK.

Anti-immigrant group Britain First is trying to recruit immigrants

Submitted by george on

Despite a manifesto that calls for an almost complete stop to immigration, Britain First – a far-right-political party in the UK – is actively looking to recruit Polish immigrants. Although the group has no elected officials at any level of government, they have amassed 1.9 million likes on Facebook – more than any other political party in the country.

Bizarrely, the group is now leveraging its social media influence to target Polish immigrants living in the UK. A series of Britain First propaganda videos have been launched online, specifically aimed at a Polish audience. According to a BBC report, recent videos include one from Jacek Miedlar, a Polish far-right former priest.

Article 50 author urges government to halt Brexit

Submitted by george on

‘The disastrous consequences of Brexit are becoming clearer every day’. That’s the damning verdict of Article 50 author, Lord Kerr of Kinlochard, who drafted the clause as part of the Lisbon Treaty in 2003. Fears of a mass exodus of EU migrants, the uncertainty surrounding the single market, combined with other unknowns, led to Lord Kerr’s shocking admission.

A former chief British diplomat, Lord Kerr is the latest high-profile Scot to have signed a letter, which calls on the UK government to stop Brexit and rethink Britain’s position within the European Union, according to a report published by the Financial Times.

Total UK immigration amnesty for Grenfell Tower survivors, say volunteers

Submitted by george on

Volunteers coming to the aid of stricken Grenfell Tower survivors say that fears over their migration status continues to prevent people from coming forward to seek help. It’s understood that the UK government has faced calls to grant UK immigration immunity to undocumented migrants of the ill-fated, high-rise block of flats in North Kensington, London.

Councillors gathered on Wednesday, 19 July in the latest meeting of the beleaguered Chelsea and Kensington council. They were asked to vote on a motion urging the government to make the current, temporary 12-month UK immigration amnesty – announced earlier in July by the Home Office – a permanent ‘amnesty.’

Tier 2 visa pivotal for recruitment of 2,000 NHS doctors to meet government targets

Submitted by george on

The NHS will recruit 2,000 foreign doctors to meet UK government targets. Simon Stevens, the head of NHS England, announced that four times the planned number of 500 extra doctors are needed to combat skills shortages. It’s understood that the NHS will look to recruit from countries such as Australia and New Zealand, with doctors needing a Tier 2 visa to live and work in Britain. The European Union will also be targeted in an attempt to attract more doctors.

UK Tier 1 entrepreneur visa coveted by South Africans

Submitted by george on

In the midst of political and economic woes in their homeland, more South Africans are targeting the UK’s Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa in a bid to invest their way to UK citizenship. According to Sable International managing director, Gary Kockott, there has been a surge in demand for the visa.

However, a better option for many may be the Tier 2 (General) Visa, which allows skilled workers to work for a UK employer with a Tier 2 Sponsorship License, and eventually gain legal permanent residence.

Deporting migrants seems to be very expensive.  Somebody is making a lot of money out of this.  Costs about £10,000 per migrant.  Probably most first class airline tickets are cheaper than that!

Most people do not realise just how commonplace injustice is in the UK.  In court cases it is frequently the case that one or both sides do not tell the truth.  Those who are honest and truthful may actually be at a disadvantage and are more likely to lose.

There are serious problems with the way in which the UK immigration system operates whether services are provided via private contractors or by Home Office staff.  Some of the time the situation seems to become even worse when outside contractors

Obviously, we wish the best of luck to these new English language test centres.  However, with all the economic uncertainty and restrictions due to coronavirus COVID-19 it remains to be seen how successful they will be in practice.

Perhaps asylum seekers should be allowed to work on farms to help with skills shortages after the end of the Brexit transitional period.  It may prove to be difficult finding enough British citizens and residents who are both able and willing to work on the farms.
