Australia Skills Shortage List

Section Menu

show hide

With its historically resilient and expanding economy Australia has often struggled to meet its need for skilled workers. The country has traditionally targeted workers from Europe, and particularly the UK, to make up for this shortfall; offering promises of shorter hours, a better climate and a lower cost of living.

Current shortages affect mainly skilled tradespeople, and to a lesser extent skilled professionals, particularly in medicine and related fields. As of 2015 Australia's Department of Employment reported that a total of 6 professions and 21 trades had been suffering consistent national shortages since 2007, with dozens more suffering shortages in certain states.

If you are under 45, and have 6-7 years experience in a shortage trade or profession (inclusive of training/apprenticeship/study) it is likely that we can get you an Australian visa – even if you cannot pass the current points test!
