Jeremy Corbyn Refuses to Back Post-Brexit Restrictions on UK Immigration

Submitted by ritmanis on

Leader of the Labour Party in the UK, Jeremy Corbyn, faces a backlash from Labour MPs after refusing to back post-Brexit restrictions on immigration. Speaking prior to his closing speech at Labour’s Annual Party Conference in Liverpool, Corbyn said that ‘restricting free movement could see Britons pay the price in tit-for-tat retaliation.’

Submitted by ritmanis on

Verity O’Keefe, the senior employment and skills policy adviser to the UK manufacturers’ organisation EEF, had urged the government not to proceed with planned Tier 2 visa changes or, at least, pause them. UK immigration and Brexit High Court loss for UK government

Submitted by ritmanis on

The High Court has ruled that parliament has to vote on whether the UK can start proceedings to leave the European Union. The latest twist in Britain’s ‘Brexit’ saga means that government plans to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon treaty – to start formal negotiations to exit the EU – are subject to parliamentary approval. This may very well mean that UK Immigration free movement rights for EU workers will last for longer.

Submitted by ritmanis on

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, has suggested that post-Brexit UK immigration controls may not apply to highly skilled foreign workers who are nationals of EU and EEA Countries. Hammond wants to see ‘high level’ workers exempted from strict immigration rules, saying that ‘there’s no reason why businesses should be restricted from recruiting top international talent.’

UK immigration minister, James Brokenshire, has revealed that London and Dublin will exchange data to prevent migrants using the Irish border as a backdoor route into Britain. In a bid to prevent the introduction of what officials are calling a ‘hard border’ between northern and southern Ireland, there will be additional UK immigration controls at Irish ports and airports once the UK exits the European Union.

Perhaps the UK visa system is so complex and confusing that even UK Visas and Immigration staff at the Home Office are likely to make mistakes.  Surely it is possible to design a simpler and easier to understand system.  The financial requirements for an UK family based application such as a marriage visa are complex and confusin

UK Visas and Immigration are encouraging people to apply for a Sponsor Licence.

Unfortunately, litigation seems to be necessary too much of the time.  Giving the Government lots of bad publicity can also help.  It is frequently very difficult to persuade an organisation to accept responsibility for their mistakes.  People stick together and deny that anything is wrong.  People are also scared to admit that something is wrong, in case this upse

Did anyone think that Boris Johnson and UK visas and Immigration would find some underhand way of still charging the immigration health surcharge to some health care workers?  Apparently if you change jobs in the next six months you will need to pay £400 a year in advance for the duration of the visa.   Actually it could be

Comments by Sanwar Ali:

As previously mentioned I believe that Boris Johnson, Priti Patel and others have exaggerated the changes to the UK visa system from 1 January 2021.  There are some significant changes.  However, perhaps the most significant change is that newly arriving EU citizens to the UK will need to come under the UK visa system.

Especially after the Windrush scandal there must be a great deal of concern about record keeping by the Home Office.  Can we really trust UK Visas and Immigration to behave fairly and responsibly.   Too much of the time they are more concerned about immigration enforcement than treating
